On Form Limited was established by Stephen Moore in 2015 with an emphasised focus on the Business Intelligence arena. Replacing and re-branding the former company SJMoore Evolution Ltd with more than just a Microsoft centric approach, other technologies such as Tableau, Qlik and Power BI were enthusiastically embraced.
The initial foray into consulting for big clients started just before 2000 and focused principally on Microsoft desktop products such as Access and Excel with a high proficiency of VBA extensibility at a time when these tools, especially Access, were in high demand. As time progressed and database server solutions took hold, MS SQL Server and it's related tools and partner apps were utilised. Parts of this evolved from early renderings to what we see today - DTS for example - morphing into what is now recognised as the BI Stack. Although demands for Access solutions devolved from full blown databases down to quick fix tools and interim apps, Excel remained, as it does today, a crucial tool in the world of finance, and expertise on this - along with VBA development within it's object model - is a permanent fixture. Around this time Business Objects was the data mining sensation taking hold in the business world. This was fully taken on board and instilled as the reporting mantra, serving as the opening gambit into data mining and data visualisation technologies which spectacularly replaced all the conventional, slow, inflexible and sightless reporting methods.
Today, the primary aim is to supply clients with reporting solutions using the best cutting edge tools that are currently on offer; this equates to development suites such as Tableau Desktop and Tableau Server for example - providing high quality visuals and efficiently mined data, with preparation of data coming through pipelines such as SSIS or Tableau Prep. At the same time, expertise in Excel - and Access if needed - is still a very active high level service utilising Visual Basic for Applications to extend and augment client solutions.
On Form is fully equipped to apply the solutions remotely or on site in equal measures of efficacy - and has effortlessly executed tasks like this for past clients.
I've been working in the IT industry since the early 1990's, kicking off my career at SM Distribution in South East London as a computer operator. My forays into the world of development came during this time by automating manual procedures (such as tape backups, restores, volume checking etc) using a mixture of COBOL and the resident OS language SCL. The learning curve encompassed UNIX and in mid 1993, MS Access version 1.1, utilising Access Basic (which later evolved into the VB IDE and heralding the name Visual Basic for Applications). In November 2000 I entered my first contract and founded SJMoore Evolution Ltd.
I rarely look back, but when I do, it's to remember not only my good fortune (of which, according to Napoleon, was one of the measures of success), but to be thankful that I took the step (enormous, at the time) of abandoning the security of a permanent role and undertaking the first, of what would be, many contracts thereafter.
